Annual Parochial Church Meeting 2021

Our Annual Parochial Church Meeting 2021 will take place on Sunday 25 April 2021 at 10.45am.

You will remember that it was not possible to hold a meeting in person last year due to the pandemic, and our last APCM was delayed until November and took place virtually. It only feels a short time ago as a result, but this year’s meeting will be taking place at the more usual time of year to hopefully get us back on track!

The annual meeting is an important time to come together and hear more about all that has gone on over the past year – although the 2020 meeting took place in November, this only covered the previous financial year period to the end of March 2020. The meeting in April therefore will be reporting on the year April 2020 – March 2021. The meeting is also when important leadership elections take place.

Papers and reports

All the papers and reports for the meeting will be available via this web page in advance. If you must have a paper hard copy to be able to access these, please contact the church office as soon as possible to request one.

Churchwardens – Churchwardens are appointed for a period of one year and so have to be elected or re-elected at every APCM. Hazel was elected church warden in November, but her term of office comes to an end at this APCM and will need to be re-elected. Karen had indicated that she wished to stand down as churchwarden at last year’s APCM but, because no one else came forward to stand alongside Hazel, she has remained in office by default and we are very grateful to her for continuing to serve in this role for much longer than intended!

The role of churchwarden is incredibly important in helping to lead our work and ministry, working with John and the staff team. We have put together some Frequently Asked Questions (see the link below) to explain more about the role and how it works. Please have a look at this and think and pray about whether you, or someone you know, might be being prompted by God to stand.

As well as wardens, we will have three vacancies on the Parochial Church Council for three-year terms, as three members come up for re-election or are standing down after a 6-year stint! We also have two vacancies which were not filled at the last APCM and so can still be filled for two years and one vacancy for a representative to the Aire and Worth Deanery Synod (a higher level of church governance) which again, would be for a two-year period alongside those who were elected at the last meeting in November.

Please do think and pray about all these vacancies and listen out for God prompting you, either to stand yourself or to encourage someone else to do so. If you would like to discuss what is involved, please speak to John Rainer, Mike Moss, Viv Brealey, Karen Parkinson or Hazel Wilmshurst.

Anyone standing for any of the roles needs to be formally nominated in writing by a seconder and a proposer and have signed the nomination form. You may only nominate someone for churchwarden or for election to the Deanery Synod or PCC with their knowledge and permission.

Nomination forms can be printed off below for completion, or hard copies are available in church (please note that these are different colours and make sure you use the right one!). Please give completed and signed forms to John Rainer.

How to take part in the meeting and vote

The meeting will take place physically in church and will start at 10.45am. We need to keep meetings as short as possible within the current restrictions and it will last approximately one hour. We still need to restrict attendance for the meeting and a maximum of 50 people will be able to be there. You must book to attend the meeting.

We will stream the meeting live on our YouTube channel, so it will be possible to watch and listen to the meeting if you are unable to attend. However, you will need to be present at the meeting, and a member of the Church’s Electoral Roll, to be able to vote.

Please note: booking to attend the meeting does not open until MONDAY 19 APRIL. Please do not try to book, either online or through the church office, before this date.

There will be a short act of Morning Worship in church on Sunday 25th between 10am and 10.30am. the annual meeting will then follow, starting at 10.45am. You can either:

Book to attend the Morning Worship service only (Click on this link on or after 19 April)

Book to attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting only (Click on this link on or after 19 April)

Book to attend BOTH the morning worship service and the APCM (Click on this link on or after 19 April.)

You can also book by phoning or emailing the church office as usual, but again, please do not attempt to book before 19 April and please state which option you would like to book – morning worship, APCM or both.
