St Peter’s Shipley – Evening Prayer

April 21-26 2025

Season: Easter Week
Festivals this week: None

Opening Prayers

In your resurrection, O Christ,
let heaven and earth rejoice. Alleluia

Blessed are you, Lord God of our salvation,
to you be praise and glory for ever.
As once you ransomed your people from Egypt
and led them to freedom in the promised land,
so now you have delivered us from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of your risen Son.
May we, the first fruits of your new creation,
rejoice in this new day you have made,
and praise you for your mighty acts.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Blessed be God for ever.

That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful,
let us pray with one heart and mind.
Silence is kept
As our evening prayer rises before you, O God,
so may your mercy come down upon us
to cleanse our hearts
and set us free to sing your praise
now and for ever.
Amen.

A period of silence for reflection on the past day follows

Penitence

Most merciful God,
We confess to you,
Before the whole company of heaven and one another,
That we have sinned in thought, word and deed
And in what we have failed to do.
Forgive us our sins,
Heal us by your Spirit
And raise us to new life in Christ.
Amen

O God, make speed to save us,
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Daily Prayer Evening Readings April 21-26 2025

The appointed Psalm of the day is read
Glory to the Father and to the Son
And to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning is now
And shall be for ever. Amen

The appointed New Testament reading for the day
This is the word of the Lord
Thanks be to God

The Lord is my strength and my song:
he has become my salvation.
I shall not die, but live,
and declare the works of the Lord.
He has become my salvation.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
The Lord is my strength and my song:
he has become my salvation.

Prayers of intercession

Pray for:

  • For peace
  • For individuals and their needs.

You may wish to include these concerns in your prayers during the week:

  • The people of God, that they may proclaim the risen Lord.
  • God’s creation, that the people of the earth may meet their responsibility to care
  • Those in despair and darkness, that they may find the hope and light of Christ.
  • Those in fear of death, that they may find faith through the resurrection
  • Prisoners and captives.

The Collect of the Week

Lord of all life and power,
who through the mighty resurrection of your Son
overcame the old order of sin and death
to make all things new in him:
grant that we, being dead to sin
and alive to you in Jesus Christ,
may reign with him in glory;
to whom with you and the Holy Spirit
be praise and honour, glory and might,
now and in all eternity.
Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Rejoicing in God’s new creation
As our Saviour taught us, so we pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

The Conclusion

In peace we will lie down and sleep;
for you alone, Lord, make us dwell in safety.
Abide with us, Lord Jesus,
For the night is at hand the day is now past.
As the night watch looks for the morning,
so do we look for you, O Christ.

May the living waters of Christ cleanse us,
may the Spirit descend upon us,
and the blessing of God be with us
this night and always.
Amen
