Join us this Sunday for our all-new service pattern

We will be trying a new weekly pattern of services from this coming Sunday, September 5 2021 as we all continue to get used to the ‘new normal’ following the pandemic.

Each week, we will be holding the following services:

9.30am All-age Worship – a shorter, more informal service for people of all ages, led by Rachel, Mark and the team. This service will last approx 30-40 minutes and will be a flexible mixture of worship styles. (Note there will be no service at 9.30am on the third Sunday of the month, when there will be a Messy Church session at 3.30pm in the afternoon instead. This will be online in September, after which we hope to go back to meeting in person in church.) The 9.30 service will include an act of Holy Communion together once a month.

This week, the theme of the servie will be God’s purpose in creation and will be based on the Bible reading from Genesis 2:4-9 & 15-17.

11am Morning Worship or Holy Communion – this will be our more traditional, liturgical service and will alternate Morning Worship on the second and fourth Sundays of the month and Holy Communion on the first and third Sundays. This service will last around 50 minutes to an hour.

Music will be led by our choir and organist at the 11am service on three Sundays of the month, and by our music group on the fourth Sunday of each month.

This week, the theme of the service will be God’s purpose in creation, we will be celebrating Holy Communion and John will be preaching from Genesis 1:24-end.

Please note for the time being, all Holy Communion services will be in one kind – ie bread only – following guidance from the Diocese of Leeds.

From time to time we will be holding a single joint all-age service in the morning at 10.30am to bring everyone together for special occasions. The first of these services will be on Harvest Sunday – 26 September 2021. We will also be reintroducing refreshments between the morning services from Harvest Sunday – do join us if you can in the church halls from 10.30am on Sundays with two morning services and 11.30am if there is just one service, for a drink and a chance to spend some time together catching up.

6.30pm Evening Services – will take place live in church each week and will also be broadcast online on our YouTube Channel. These services will consist of a liturgical Holy Communion celebration on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the mont, while the 1st and 3rd Sunday evenings will probably be an opportunity for a more informal worship time, when the much smaller numbers of congregation present mean we may do a number of things that will no longer be possible in shortened morning services, such as more extended sung worship and teaching times, shared testimony space and offering prayer ministry – more to come on this in future weeks. Evening services will be the main opportunity on Sundays for more modern music group-style worship.

This week, the theme of the service will be Looking after the earth, the service will follow the liturgy for Evening Prayer, Mike will be leading and John will be preaching from Psalm 65 and Luke 12:22-31.

We will also continue to support Shipley Christians Together’s United Services when these are scheduled for Sunday evenings.
