Join us for a very special evening offering a bit of pre-Christmas fun and the opportunity to support the Church Hall Roofs appeal in an unusual way!

We will be holidng a Festive Fundraising Winetasting event in church on Saturday 11 December, in conjunction with Martinez Wines, which will be an opportunity to have a fun social evening together, get ready for celebrating the festive season and to raise some funds for the church hall roofs appeal in the process.

We are delighted that wine connoisseur Nick Breare will be joining us to host the event and share his expertise. The evening will involve a game called Call my Quaff – a wine-based version of the TV panelshow game ‘Call my Bluff’.

There will be the opportunity to taste four different wines – white, red, fizzy and dessert – and to see how good your taste buds are and whether you can pick out the right grapes from the various descriptions provided. There will be a prize (which may be wine-related!) for the table scoring the most points by guessing the most grapes correctly!

There will also be cheese and biscuits and some sweet Christmas treats to enjoy alongside the wines – and, of course, plenty of water to cleanse your tastebuds between wines.

The evening will be a great opportunity to sample some wines in time to include your favourites on your Christmas menu! Wines for the tasting are being provided by Martinez Wines. Long established in Ilkley, and now also in Bingley, they are an independent wine merchant providing distinctive individual wines.

If you find something you really like and want to order either to enjoy over Christmas or give as a presents, there will be opportunity to order, at a discount, on the night.

How to book

Entry will be £15 per person with all proceeds after the costs of the event going to the Church Roof Appeal.

Tickets will need to be booked in advance so that we know how many people will be attending but must be paid for on the night only – either by card or in cash or cheque payable to St Peter’s Shipley.

Donations of crackers, mince pies and shortbread biscuits to serve at the event will be welcomed. There will be a box marked “Wine-tasting donations” in Reception from Monday 29 November. Please leave any contributions in here by Thursday 9 December.

This is a great opportunity to invite friends and family to come along to an event at church too – printed flyers are available in church – please do take some and use these to invite others!
