We will be joining together with Christians across Shipley to celebrate the Easter season with a range of opportunities to come and walk the way to the cross this week – and to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection with the biggest day in the church’s year on Sunday.
On Thursday evening, Christians in Shipley will be coming together to mark Maundy Thursday – the night of Jesus’ last supper with his disciples and his arrest – with two services. There will be a celebration of Holy Communion at St Paul’s Church at 7pm and a service of Tenebrae at Christ Church Windhill also at 7pm. Tenebrae means ‘darkness’ and the service gives an opportunity to reflect on Jesus’ final week as the church lights are gradually extinguished. All are welcome at either of these services.
Good Friday will see Shipley Christians Together walking from St Paul’s Church in Kirkgate to the Market Place to mark the day and remind our town what the Bank Holiday is for! Meet at St Paul’s at 11.30 for a short service and then the walk of witness will set off at 12 noon for the Market Square, where there will be hymns and prayers.
Back at St Peter’s at 2pm, there will be a further reflective service for Good Friday when we will walk the way to the foot of the cross through the stories in the Gospels.
Easter Day is a time for celebration and rejoicing and the whole church will be joining together at 10.30am for a joint celebration of Easter Day for all ages, including Holy Communion – and a chocolate egg or two! All welcome to join us for this special day.
And don’t forget to put your clocks forward an hour on Saturday night so you get to church at the right time on Sunday – and can enjoy some more daylight for Easter Day evening!
