At St Peter’s Shipley we have a vision to see our town changed by the power of God. We seek to show God’s love by welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds, and connecting to our community through friendship, kindness and support, especially with those with practical, spiritual or social needs.
Purpose
The role of the Welcome Space Coordinator is to lead the provision of a Welcome Space event weekly.
Welcome Space is an extension of a very successful Warm Spaces initiative that ran through the winter months run by willing volunteers. This initiative came to a natural end at the end of March 2023 but there was seen to be a need for a re-imagined event to provide a social gathering preferably with food running for about 3 hours every Friday.
The Warm Spaces initiative attracted parents and carers with young children who had attended our See & Know (parents/carers and toddlers) meeting in the morning and came on to get some lunch. It also attracted a range of people of all ages who valued the opportunity to meet, eat and socialise. The format was that we served tea, coffee and cake from 10:30 onward. From about 11:30 we served predominantly soup but occasionally Polish stews. The event officially finished at 2:30pm.
The Welcome Space is expected to follow a similar format probably 11am to 2pm with some form of food provided but the exact format still has to be determined
